Regular Posts: 82 | Hey John. It's nice to see you again. How is everything? It's Doug from Florida. I'm looking for a power steering wheel for my 58 Fury. I'm looking for something that is restorable with as few cracks as possible. I just restored the steering wheel on my 66 Rambler with epoxy putty and it came out great. My Fury's wheel is just cracked all over the place and I'd like to start with a better one. Let me know if you can help. Thanks

I've been keeping plenty busy lately myself. I checked the deluxe steering wheels I have, and the best ones still have a couple of 3/8" cracks in them. Glenn Barratt was working with George Laurie in Australia on making a mold to recast these, but to my knowledge, nothing has come to fruition yet. ---John

Veteran Posts: 225 Location: Michigan | How about a 57 ply interior rr view mirror? Are they chrome, stainless or painted? its a belvedere if it makes any difference. If the mirror is bad couldnt any glass company replace it? I've never seen one in real life but hate the windshield mounted one I have now.

Expert Posts: 1527 Location: ZH, Switzerland | I'm asking for a set of motor mounts for my 1956 Chrysler New Yorker (called Chrysli). The drivers side rear rubber in the motor mount is broken. So I guess I need mounts for all four corners. Do have a set /w good rubber inside? I'll appreciate your answer very much. Thank you. Happy New Year! Happy Motoring! Dieter

Expert Posts: 1527 Location: ZH, Switzerland | Hi John Thank you very much for the time you spent for me. I guess I have to find a shop that will renew the existing motor mounts (new rubber, re-vulcanize). But for that I guess I have to move the whole engine assembly (motor and gearbox) out of the car for a very long time. Or - is it possible to drive around for a longer period with a broken/cracked rubber in one motor mount? Thank you very much. HAPPY NEW YEAR! Dieter Edited by di_ch_NY56 2011-01-01 5:03 AM

Expert 5K+ Posts: 7805 Location: Williams California | Dieter, I wouldn't recommend driving with broken motor mounts, as it can cause eventual damage to exhaust components, and may conflict with the steering linkages. Also, in rare instances, the engine can rock upwards and cause the throttle linkage to bind. Not a good thing to have happen. I would remove both mounts, and drill holes in the steel parts the rubber is vulcanized to, and run a bolt through each side. This may transmit a bit of vibration, but is safe until you can have a set of mounts rebuilt or find replacements. ---John

Expert Posts: 1527 Location: ZH, Switzerland | Hi John Thank you very much for your ideas. Coincidentally I was looking about my search lists in eBay. Then I got the idea to search for motor mounts. So I got the rear motor (transmission) mount from fmmpar. Later on I found front motor mounts for a 1955 Chrysler/Imperial - also from fmmpar. I set the question if they will fit the 1956 model year either (should according my parts book). It seems that I do not have to drive around with broken (= damaged rubber in the) motor mounts. I could imagine the engine bouncing around during a transition. Happy Motoring! Dieter

Expert Posts: 1527 Location: ZH, Switzerland | Hi John Do have an extension of the tail and stop lamp of a 1956 Chrysler for sale. I'm looking for the inner side extension moulding, LH side. The extension moulding is mounted at the body below the tail lamp, just behind the rear bumper extension (sight from the back). The part number according the parts book is 1650 265. At eBay I only could find complete bumbers and bumper extensions. Kind regards Dieter

Extreme Veteran Posts: 508 Location: Orlando | Hi, I need a piece of sheet metal from a 57 Dodge. I've attached a picture of what I'm after. It's the panel above the rear bumper that holds the weatherstrip. But I'd also like to extend that past the factory weld to the middle of the tail-light...as you can see, mine is rusted out. Also, I was wondering if you had a pair of 'standard' torsion bars for my car. My car is the Custom Royal and it came with the extra soft bars. The standard bars that I'm looking for would be parts 952 and 953 (I currently have 950, 951.) (12small.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 12small.jpg (178KB - 684 downloads)
