JPMopar, it looks like your key-ring is part of the 33rd anniversary "Bell Ringer" sale like in the '55 ads for Hub Motor. I really like that business card you shared. Pretty cool. Mine from Bank Motors is of a similar design.

This is the emblem that was on the back of my Regal lancer...   Emblem was fairly small, they owned a Ford dealership also.

The dealership today, an Aamco shop. Might be the same building still. Same houses in the background. Trees have grown

I was thinking the key-ring was from 1952, since that's the year of the "160 HP" Firedome (that's stamped on the key-ring). In 1955, wasn't the Firedome rated at 185 HP?

Here's a couple items from my hometown Forwardlook dealer, Bastian Motors, which burned down in 1961 and did not reopen. The dark circles showing through the Desoto key chain is from someone pressing a car's cigarette lighter to the back of it, melting the plastic. I think it's cool that the key chain (from 1952-53) mimics the shape of a hemi combustion chamber.

Great thread and interesting info!
Anyone notice the Art Frost underhood photo (page 1), showing a 57 Flite w/o hood insulation and appearing to have vacuum windshield washers? In contrast,
the page 2 photo of AC Elkins shows a 58 Flite with hood insulation and a foot washer pump.

Received the FCA build cards for my 57's. The Flite came from #89041 Polk dealership in Alexandria Va. The Dome came from #36947 Bob Bauer in San Diego Calif.

Great service.

Thanks for the dealership numbers. I'm build a dealership list, available soon.

That ad must be celebrating a 33rd anniversary of Hub Motors because DeSoto didn't come into being until late 1928, and Chrysler in 1925. Your bell shaped key-ring may be celebrating some other anniversary.

This is the photo I'd posted to both Jalopy Journal and Kustomrama years back. That custom car is the Donz Lancer and it was briefly on display at Bastian Motors back in the mid-50's. Here's the link to the Kustomrama page:

56D --
That card of J. B. Dowd with the Jess Hunter Motor Company in Pueblo, Colorado, "Your Plymouth Dealer," is interesting. I grew up in Pueblo and here are a few tidbits:
- While I never knew Mr. Dowd, the Hunter clan was a dominant family in the automobile business in the area for years.
- The card dates back to the early 1950s as the T/P No. is still the 4-digit type used before the arrival of dial phones which certainly dates me (anyone else remember, "Number, Please?" -- mine was 2505J).
- By the time of the Forward Look, Jess Hunter had become the Ford dealer, but was still at the address on the card.
- His brother John took over the Imperial-Chrysler-Plymouth franchise after Jess left for Ford and moved it south about four blocks to 7th and Santa Fe.
- I bought my first '60 Fury from the store there at 7th and Santa Fe (and traded it for my first '65 Sport Fury there).
In those days, manufacturers were more controlling about who sold their cars and often restricted their dealers from marketing other brands. But by subterfuge, they became family businesses and by then Jess had Ford, his brother John had Chrysler-Plymouth, and a third had Lincoln-Mercury while a brother-in-law, Lloyd McKee had the biggest Chrysler-Plymouth dealership in New Mexico.
Again, it is interesting.

Looks like Bob Bauer was at 3266 El Cajon Blvd. in San Diego at the time. Right down the street from my old house. El Cajon Blvd was a big car dealer street in the 1950s and 1960s. In 1966 they moved to the Lemon Grove area as a Plymouth dealer.

I did ask this already in 2004 but maybe someone has now more info about the dealer.

My Windsor was sold in 1957 by "Seattle Automobile Inc.", license plate frame says "Seattle Auto" ... dealer code in the build sheet is (7) 06569 and div/reg 23.

Answering to myself. So far I have learnt that Seattle Automobile Co was founded in early 1900's and it's founder was the guy who sold the very first car in Seattle in 1903. It was a Franklin dealer, then later a Packard dealer and in the 50s and 60s Chrysler-Imperial-Plymouth Dealer. Latest mention I have found online has been attached postcard from 1962.

Yet more digging on "Seattle Automobile Co" resulted that dealership changed owners in 1963 and became "Goodfellow Chrysler-Plymouth Inc" and in the 1970's the company switched to other brand and became "Goodfellow Ford Inc".

In a couple of pics above, I couldn't help notice how much more attractive (to me) the '59 Fury is over the '59 Sport Fury. Nice, clean, unbroken side trim front to rear with no unnecessary trinketry and no toilet seat on the deck lid. Sweeeeeet!

It appears Ireland-Downing was a Plymouth only dealer. That's unusual as I always thought Plymouth was coupled with Dodge, DeSoto, or Chrysler.

There were some Plymouth only dealers - as well as Dodge, DeSoto and Chrysler. But not Imperial - at least not in 1957-58.

On January 1, 1957, Plymouth had a total of 8,752 franchises. That figure included duals, while 77 were Plymouth only. One year later Plymouth had a total of 7,695 franchises, including duals, with 195 Plymouth only.

Interesting - Dad was a DeSoto-Plymouth dealer from 1946 till 1961 when Chrysler replaced the DeSoto at his dealership. In
1968 he added Dodge and Dodge Trucks to the line-up and continued to 1981 when it closed.

I guess I never paid attention to there being Plymouth dealers only as all I can remember was the dual dealership concept.

Hello everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone happens to know of the White Plymouth Centre in Renton Washington?
This is the information listed on my Owner's Service Certificate along with Code Number: 61411.
It was delivered in November 1960. Sadly over the years I've never been able to find anything about this dealership.
Thanks so much

For some reason, I've always seen the 61 Desotos as these:

In my opinion the only 1961 FL that made an improvement in looks over their respective 1960 models was the Imperial.

I’d agree with that. I like the fins on the 61 Imperial. Chrysler was a step backwards after the boomerang tailights of the 1960’s. Everything about the 60 Chrysler’s and DeSotos were better, and the same applies comparing the 60 Dodges and Plymouth’s to the 61’s. The Plymouth didn’t even have fins anymore! Truly the end of an era. Things would never be the same ever again.
How anyone in the styling dept could look at the 61 Chrysler taillights and think those were better than the 60’s is beyond me. Totally pointless change.
