The thermostat housing on the ’66 Poly 318 I’m installing in my ’56 Plymouth breaks out at an angle toward the side of the engine, but I need one the either points forward, or straight up to clear the aftermarket AC. I suppose I could make a flex hose work, but I really hate them if there is a way to avoid it.

I’ve seen older Poly and Hemi engines that point up, but I’m not sure if the dimensions are correct for my application.

I need 1-1/2" hose fitting and 3-1/4” mounting hole spacing, but so far I haven’t been able to find an aftermarket part, or later stock Mopar part that will work for me. Does anyone have a suggestion where to find something that would fit?

I too am looking for an aftermarket (or NOS OE) thermostat housing for my 56 Dodge. In the interim, I bought a used housing and had a muffler shop bend, swage and weld an appropriate piece of pipe on to match the rusty bits that were removed. That might be an option for you.

Here are some photos. Still needs to be cleaned up and painted (not installed yet).

Both of these are factory stock 1 1/2" nipples with 3 1/4" bolt spacing.

Any part numbers stamped on those?...or do you know which engine they came from? The only ones I could find in stock at three local auto parts stores all had 1-1/4" nipples or the wrong bolt spacing.

I also considered the exhaust pipe idea, but years ago I had a similar setup blow the hose off without a shoulder to retain it, so I was hesitant to try it again.

I think those came from flat-head sixes. While searching for examples, I found this:

Wow! I wonder how I missed that one when I searched e-bay. It looks like the one I need and the price is right. Thanks!
