Elite Veteran Posts: 1107 Location: Arvada, Colorado (NW Denver Metro Area) | With great sadnes, I would like to announce the passing of my father, William (Bill) Quinn on Thursday 10-5-18 at age 90 here in Arvada. Dad was an 32 1/2+ year Chrysler Stamping Engineer who started with Chrysler (from a Ford 5 years there!) in 1959 and retired in 1992 out of Auborn Hills HQ. Dad was fighting an aggreessive form of Skin Cancer on his head that had plaqued him for years and beiing 90 years old did not help either. He passed peacefully... I had moved him out here to Colorado from Wilmington, NC where he and my mother moved to from the Detroit area. Mom passed about 6 years ago and I wanted Dad closer to me to take care of him. Dad was the patriarch of the Quinn family, with 5 sons ( I am son #2). Dad really engoyed my love of cars and the small collection of FL cars I have assemble, as he remembers all the Dies it took to make the sheet metal for them like it was yesterday. Dad had attended a few car shows and car club meetings with me and was amazed at the grass root support for older Chrysler vehicles we owned and cherished. Dad and my Mom will be intered at Fort Logan National Cemetery at a latter date as both were Army veterans (Dad was an Captain in the First Missle Brigade at White Sands, NM and mom was an Surgical nurse (Lt) and was at one point an MASH nurse in Korea during that war then later flew the wounded to all the various Army hospitals in the US) and were married at Fort Bliss, TX where they both were stationed at during the early 50's. I will miss talking with him about cars and growing up with him as an father. And as an Person too! John Edited by 1959 Belvedere Conv 2018-10-06 4:11 PM

Him on the manufacturing side and me on the Sales side. Good times we shared to the end. He is without pain now and with my mother who had passed almost 6 years ago. He left 5 sons (4 of us worked for Chrysler) to continue on our Irish heritage and sarcastic NYC wit. Thanks for your kind comments.

Location: Parts Unknown | Certainly. My old man croaked out 30 years ago at age 51. He was a mean SOB and I have exactly zero "warm-n-fuzzy" memories of him and any of us kids. Mom just stood by and let it happen. When he died, I had a brief choke, realizing any childish hope I held for him to change was dead with him. Then I pulled my head out of my ass, and got back to living in the real world. I have lots of friends whose parents were/are wonderful and their growing years were pretty magical. I tell them of the "original terrorist" at our house and the madhouse things that happened, and they are drop-jawed in disbelief. But we kids found our own way to have fun and make the best of it. But hearing stories of growing up with good, responsible, guiding parents kinda blows my mind. How far ahead might I be in life ? How many follies and regrets might I have steered clear of, had Mom or Dad been invested ? On the flips side, I have friends and clients who have worthless kids still living in their basement or bumming money at age 40. That was never an option inmy life. I find gratitude in my "rough patch" for giving me the strength, independence, and self-awareness to make it on my own. Some people never get that. I find gratutude in almost everything I see and do. No matter how bad something might seem, it usually holds a lesson and it always could be worse.

Veteran Posts: 298 Location: Kalispell, MT USA | Well said, Dr D. John, sorry to hear that. The end of that era is coming, soon all that worked for W.P.'s great company will be just memories. Truly a great loss, of people and machines alike. All we can do is preserve what we can to share with a new generation who will never know streets crowded with American Iron, and Exner's best (and worst). Norm

Veteran Posts: 110 Location: Falcon, CO | John, Sorry to hear about your Dad. I'm going to visit my Dad later this week in Virginia, and he just turned 88 a few months ago. He retired from Eastern Airlines before they folded, so I love talking to him about planes and jets, including the ones that he worked on during the Korean War. I hope to get him up to the Air and Space Museum in northern Virginia one more time while he is still able, as he was in charge of getting the Eastern Airlines DC-3 to the museum several decades ago. Sounds like you have some very fond memories, and I need to make some more while I can... Don H.
