Greetings,

I'm new to the forum. I have a 56 Desoto Firedome wagon I am trying to restore and have a million questions but have to start somewhere so it might as well be here. It has the Vickers power steering pump which leaks. Trying to find exactly where but wondering if anyone makes a rebuild kit for it? Or anyone who rebuilds them? Thanks for the help.

those are the more readily available rebuild kits, i think they are on ebay. the thompson revolver pump is essentially un-rebuildable. You need to make sure
you get the right one.

there are actually 3 types.

Thompson "slipper" type.
vickers
Thomspon "revolver" type.

I needed a Vickers pump rebuild for my '57 DeSoto, so after looking around a little, I tried RockAuto and sure enough they listed one for $149 with a warranty. of course the core charge was $500, but the rebuilt one arrived and the core returned long before the credit card came due. They paid the return shipping and the new pump works great! No more leaks and squeaks. Their pumps are rebuilt by Lares Corporation (www.larescorp.com) in Minnesota, and they have a pretty good reputation.

If my power steering ever has an issue I will put electronic assist power steering in it... so simple and you gain horsepower all for 150$

Are you talking about the type that replaces a section of your steering column?

I was lucky enough to find this Vickers seal kit on E-bay, made by Weatherhead.

Thanks all. I have the pump apart and just might try to reseal to 2 halves with RTV to so if that works. Found a place in CA that rebuilds them but it's pretty pricey, but might have to go that route.

I've been looking for a seal-up kit for a '55-'56 mopar Vickers generator driven power steering pump. GM used the same pump on some '56 chevys. Danchuk has seal-up kits for this pump. #012.

Hmmmm. Interesting, and cheap enough to try.
