Location: Wyoming | I’ve got a 1958 De Soto with a three speed torque flight original to the car, but rebuilt a couple times since I’ve owned it - has never worked correctly. It’s been a long time since this transmission was last rebuilt and I only just got the rebuilt engine started for the first time. I have reverse only, and no drive. I’ve had The pan off to adjust the neutral safety switch and know that it is shifting correctly at the valve body. I have already adjusted the shift cable per the service manual procedure. Any thoughts on what/where the problem is? |

Location: Wyoming | There’s definitely nothing in drive but I can’t swear that there’s no forward motion in either second or first. I will check again, and I have just found an Imperial page on a different way to adjust the shifting cable. |

Location: Southern Sweden - Sturkö island | The first thing to check is the line and lube etc pressures with a manometer.
Second thing (eventual first) is to check the adjustment of the kick-down band.
If those points are ok, then it's very plausible that the front clutch and or the front clutch drum are shot. Although that would show in lower pressure when checking the pressures.
A very common problem is that the bore of the front shaft are worn out in the sealing ring areas - when installing new sealing rings and inserting the fron shaft into the bore the sealing rings breaks off or doesn't seal well. |

Have you tried the "1" button. If it moves forward with the "1" button depressed but not in D, it's not the clutch. |

My recent experience: No "breakaway" 1st in "D", but manual 1st "1" had good launch, 2nd and 3rd gear OK. Breakaway 1st has rear carrier held by overrunning clutch, manual 1st is heal by rear band.
