Is it possible to bore out a cast iron 392 block to 417 cubic inches if the block had siamesed cylinders? My buddy is considering on billet casting such a block.

Haven't heard of that much over bore on those blocks, for sure a sonic test would be in order.

Isn't "billet casting" an oxymoron?

It's already been done. I don't know why they haven't made it to the market yet or what the holdup is, but I have seen the block in person 3 years ago. You would think that if they went through all the expense to make the mold and build some prototypes that they would follow through with the production, but it hasn't happened yet. And yes, it is high nickel cast iron, not billet. They say the can get a 4.125 bore which would give you the 417 cubic inches. The article is from 2015.

By the way, these guys are about 2 minutes from my work. Maybe I'll drop by there and see what's going on if anyone is willing to talk to me.

If the goal is 417 inches it would be alot cheaper to build a stroker than cast a block......
