I have a 59 dodge cr with torqueflite , been sitting over 8 years , Got the engine fire up and  purrrrs like a kitten.  the trans shifts into first , second and drive but makes a  clicking noise while pushing the button for Reverse. and it will not engage the tires to rotate. ALL ...... the shift buttons are all stiff and do not pop back out correctly when pressing the button. is there a way to lubricate this so the buttons will pop back out correctly ?  I think the reverse button is not fully engaging . maybe there is a adjustment  to this all  so it engaging into each gear solidly. what do you all think ? Thanks !

If you don't have a Factory Service Manual (FSM), they are probably available as reprints on eBay.

In the short term, go to Mymopar.com and down load the closest Factory Service Manual pdf , e.g. 60 Dodge, 59 Plymouth, 58 Chrysler, etc.

http://www.mymopar.com/index.php?pid=109

I have the 58 Chrysler pdf and on page 267 of 504, there is the start of an extensive Torqueflite section that should have the info that you are looking for.

In the very short term, you could have a look at this thread for ideas and remove the shifter face plate and buttons and then the two nuts that hold the shifter box into the dash. Pull the shifter box out and spray the shifter slide plates with WD-40 and exercise them with the buttons. That should help (unless one of the return springs is broken)

I take it there is a cable that runs down to the trans ... is there any adjustment to be made with the shift cable that runs down to the trans ?
