I have bought a few replacement carpets for old cars, and have almost always been very disappointed. Even now as I shop, I find "molded" carpets that magically are supposed to fit 10 years of the same car, with far different floor pans, probably don't fit any of them correctly. Some of the "cut and sewn" mat are suspect as well. I don't think any of them use the thick "jute" backing that was original or even offer that as an option.

I also need trunk covering, but am not sure if my 59 Imperial Crown Southampton 4dr HT came with rubber or carpet, does anyone know for sure?

Has anyone had any GOOD experiences with a vendor?

Stock Interiors handles ACC carpets. They show a molded two piece carpet set for the 59-61 Imperials.

I doubt that the floor pan was different between 2 dr and 4dr. Their real question isn't bench or swivel it is bench/swivel or buckets.

Not impressed with my Stockinteriors carpet. Did not fit the center hump at all.

This is not very encouraging. NOBODY reports good results, and one has had bad results the same as I. Surely there is at least one company making acceptcable carpet replacements.

The carpet is a difficult task, but there are some short-Cuts.
I bought a pre-sewn carpet and that absolutely did not fit well anywhere, so I had to make some changes and some forming.

I am still looking with no real success. ACC looks like some fine stuff, I even got samples. They however maintain that theirs will NOT fit a four door hardtop or swivel seats. I even suggested they might be able to leave a bit more material here or there and open themselves to a much wider market, no success, like they don't even care. I just cannot believe there is that much difference between the floor pan between 4 dr and 2 dr.

Try asking them for measurements along the sides and the "humps" and if you get them, make your own
assessment of whether they fit your car. You just need some over lap (under the front seat). 1" would be
tight but 6" would be too much. 2" to 4" would be perfect (in my opinion).

Good luck.

Don,

I called ACC a few years ago and asked them if they would make a molded set for my 61 NYer and let the rear carpet piece run a foot longer. This would eliminate the need for the two small triangular pieces that are sewn on to cover the space between the back seat and the sill plate on my four door. She called me back and said the guys in the plant could do it but one foot was about the maximum that could be added. The carpet fit just fine and presents a more finished look than the added on extra pieces. I called back and said they could advertise carpets for four door models since it fit very well. It is surprising that they turned down your request for a little extra length on the rear carpet.

Part of the problem is that I do not know what the differences are between what they offer and what I need. Neither do they. I am finding that Newark seems to be the only maker that has them all, but they have them listed for bucket or bench seats. Problem is a 1959 Imperial has neither they use swivel seats! I have asked them if they know the difference, no answer yet. Very frustrating, they have what I need, and I cannot determine which one that is.

I would say swivel seats are bench seats from ACC's point of view. They are bench seats until the driver's or
passenger seat is swivelled for those few seconds of ingress or egress.

My guess is that you are correct, your logic seems quite sound. With free returns I can just keep ordering until I get it right, but would much rather get it right the first time.

I have swivel seats on the 61 NYer pictured above and the carpet is fine. From their standpoint, it doesn't make any difference what type of seat you install on top of the front carpet.

Apparently not. Even though the body is enough alike you can swap fenders etc, the change from hemi to wedge 413 required some changes. I notice for floor carpets, they often group 59 to 61 alike (all 413 ci cars) but to me the 60 and 61 were totally diferent cars. My fear over the seat situation is that the factory may have a cutout for one or the other, leaving a bare spot for me perhaps.

I think I will go with the Neward carpets from J C Whitney, $104 and I can return them if I get the wrong ones.

https://cart.jcwhitney.com/basket?ai=true

For anyone following this thread, I just found out from Newark that the only difference between bench and bucket seat is that they add a center flap on the bench seat pattern to cover the space between the seats if exposed. I ordered the bucket seat option, gives me an extra piece of carpet if I don't need it in the center section

Does that car use the thick cut pile carpet? Having a hard time finding matching carpet for my 1960 New Yorker. SMS and Stock Interiors sent me thin fuzzy stuff as "cut pile". I've seen some other thicker stuff, for instance Essex from ACC, and it still looks too fuzzy and shiny. Waiting on samples from Newark.
