Regular Posts: 98 | Previously I owned a 59 Imperial Crown Southampton 4dr hardtop, the front seats could be manually rotated out for ease of entry, but I recall (I think) that maybe on the Le Baron or some other MOPAR The seats were tied to the door and would rotate automatically for easy entry. Is my memory bad or did some have seats "coupled" to the door?

Board Moderator & Exner Expert 10K+ Posts: 13042 Location: Southern Sweden - Sturkö island | The "full automatic" sviwel seats was an option to the sviwel seats option in 1960 only. The doors has torsion springs that "counterweight" the weight/force of the sviwel seat when the door is opened. Practically, if the cable should be disconnected it would be harder to close the doors. The A-pillars of the '60 was special for the cable bracket recession (if I remember correctly). This recession is not present on the '59 and '61. The construction is somewhat sloppy and often broke down. There's a lot of rumors about unsafety, type the doors flew open and throwed out the wifey, but that's not true. In my opinion, Chrysler chose to stop due to quality issues of the Components. Nothing is impossible, but it would be far more easy to install a 12 volt actuator and an electric circuit.

You mean you when you ordered the optional swivel seats you had to special order it as an automatic version? I don't think so. From where do you have this information? All my literature (60 Plymouth, press kit, magazines, etc) just says for 1960 it is automatic.

Board Moderator & Exner Expert 10K+ Posts: 13042 Location: Southern Sweden - Sturkö island | Yes Sid, the manual sviwel seats had a price tag of $87 while the automatic swivel seats had a price tag of $121. It seems like the option with automatic sviwel seats included the 6-way Power seat rails as well. Otherwise you could get the sviwel seats; - manual swivel seat, manual seat rails - manual swivel seats, 6-way Power seat rails - automatic swivel seats, 6-way Power seat rails (code 473) Source Chrysler 1960 dealers album, Ross Roy.

Board Moderator & Exner Expert 10K+ Posts: 13042 Location: Southern Sweden - Sturkö island | We have lernt one thing from this forum and that is to never say that things was done "by the book". That said, it's not plausible that the low end Plymouths would have the most luxorious swivel seat option as "standard option" I still haven't seen a Plymouth with swivel seats, not even the manual ones (naturally, they must be out there somewhere), but I've seen demounted swivel seats from the low end cars for sale. Those ones normally have less chromed moldings ( I bought one for my car and got hold of the chromed moldings from a member on our forum) Should you have some photos of '60 Plymouths or Dodges with the swivel seat option Sid, please post them here as I and many would appreciate it.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 7385 Location: northern germany | I have seen alot 60 plymouths with swivel seats. Also, of course the "brochure car" is one, but of course you can't see if it's automatic or manual. I will check the A-pillars today, 60 vs 61, if they are really different and depending on what I find out I will judge your statement by that even though it has nothing to do with the manual/automatic thing :D

Expert Posts: 2905 Location: little rock, AR | I have a '60 Plymouth Fury 4dr Sedan that had the manual Swivel which was connected to the door hinges and operated a cable when the door was opened. I have a '60 Imperial with the same device but it has a 6 way power seat.

Regular Posts: 76 Location: Okielahoma | Kind of a related question without straying off topic hopefully, are the swivel seat frames all the same dimensions? In particular, the same width? Reason I ask is the Imperials also had them and the seat material is definitely “fluffier “ and larger than say, a 59 dodge Also does the 300F and G have the same swivel frame with the console dropped over it in place of the armrest or is it a whole different animal?

Regular Posts: 57 Location: Springfield, MO | The 1959 Parts Manual lists the frame (23-45-18) being the same for all except for Plymouth. However, the seat itself looks like it needs to be specified by the trimmed assembly and would vary across lines. IMO the seats themselves are different across the lines, but may still interchange somewhat; however, they should fit on the same base except for maybe plymouths Edited by chstrumpetdude 2023-03-22 10:29 AM (Capture.jpg) (Capture1.jpg) (Capture2.jpg) (Capture3.jpg) Attachments ---------------- Capture.jpg (214KB - 57 downloads) Capture1.jpg (157KB - 66 downloads) Capture2.jpg (101KB - 71 downloads) Capture3.jpg (98KB - 62 downloads)

Regular Posts: 76 Location: Okielahoma | Which 59 parts manual is that exactly? Chrysler? I’m trying to collect all the manuals I need for my 59 Dodge and haven’t found one with the swivel seat This also makes me wonder what the differences are with the Plymouth unit and if the 60 or 61 manuals list anything different with the console

Regular Posts: 57 Location: Springfield, MO | https://mymopar.com/parts-manuals/ This is the 1959 Mopar Parts Manual. Digital seachable PDFs are available online, but paper versions are available. The cheapest bound reprints are sold by RockAuto. The swivel seat was an option across all makes, but probably most common on Chrysler and Imperial I suspect. I have not read the Dodge service manual for 1959, but the Chrysler service manual has the swivel seat diagnosis instructions.
