I got my 57 Dodge hemi car as a basket case and there were a couple loose motor mounts which I assumed were from the Dodge. Also got a 341 Desoto hemi with it that had one motor mount attached. All three motor mounts were exactly the same, so I figured no difference between Dodge and Desoto. Went to install what I thought were Dodge mounts on motor and won't fit. Bolt holes are too close together.

Today I ventured out in the snow and removed motor mounts I had left on a 57 Desoto Firesweep frame (had a 325 Dodge poly) and found that those mounts fit the Dodge hemi with 2.5 inches on center bolt holes for side of mount with 2 holes. Also measured 315 Dodge hemi and 341 Desoto hemi blocks for spacing. All the Dodge (and 57 Firesweep motor were 2.5 inches on center) All the Desoto except 325 poly had 2 inches on center attaching bolt holes.

So, now thinking that all Desoto (except Firesweep with Dodge motor) are 2 inch on center hole on the side of mount that has 2 bolt holes. But it also appears that the now-presumed-Desoto motor mounts have a rubber insert with centered bolt for attachment to frame. And the Dodge motor mounts from the Desoto chassis have that bolt offset way to one side.

Am I on the right track now thinking that the Dodge hemi mounts are supposed to have the off-center bottom cushion to chassis bolt and the Desoto is supposed to have to centered bottom cushion to chassis bolt?

Left pair of mounts shows side bolt center to center difference and right pair shows offset vs centered cushion to frame bolt location..

Thanks, Mike

I think the 57 Desoto Firesweep is messing with your mind. A Firesweep = a fancied up Dodge, so Dodge frame, Dodge motor, Dodge motor mounts.

Anything here help you describe the issue:

Yes the rubber inserts are different on some having centered chassis to motor mount bolts and some are offset to the side. I was aware the Firesweep is Dodge in Desoto clothing and is a Dodge under the skin so had figured the upper part of mounts might be different than with Desoto engines. So, the bracket looks like it will be fine off the 325 poly from the firesweep, but I am wondering if the offset mounted bolt in the firesweep rubber lower section of mounts to chassis are correct for Dodge vs the center bolt in the other presumably Desoto mounts. My guess is that centered bolts in lower cushion are for Desoto and the offset one is Dodge, but wanted to confirm b4 I put more work in them.

Could not re-size pic I mentioned in editing, but emailed it to myslef and used re-sizing function in email app to shrink it, so hopefully it works now.

Thanks, Mike

Would have suspected the Desoto mounts would be the ones to have the wider spacing on engine bracket block ears- if they bothered to make it different. But looks like they did the opposite and designed engines with more closely spaced bolt ears on the larger Desoto engine block and wider spacing on the smaller Dodge motor. Why not just have them use the same mount and have to produce and stock less unique part numbers?

Thanks, Mike

I was gonna ask about whether mounts bolt behind or in front of the ears on block, but your pic seems to indicate they go behind the block ears on at least one side, so will assume that both of them do. They do seem to fit ok whether in front or back of block ears...

Yes, all of these motors have them mount to the backside of the ears. Let me know if you would like me to take photographs of the 325 mounts in my '58 Dodge.

I ran into this problem years ago when putting a 361 in a 57 Plymouth. The bolt pattern is different and I had to buy big block mounts to fit the engine.
