Elite Veteran Posts: 705 Location: California | Everything new raybestos. Hoses. Linings that have been arched to the freshly turned drums. All new raybestos wheel cylinders. First 50 miles it stopped perfect. Now good at low speeds but hit the brakes over 35 mph and it vibrates like one of the front brake drums is broke in half. This is the second time I have run across this, the first time replaced everything 3 times with no difference. Not going to do a disc swap want to know whe the %@*&$$$$$%%%%! Is the deal. Have have done brake jobs on on other fwd look cars with center plane brakes using the same methods without issues. Thanks at my wits end with this nonsense.

Veteran Posts: 253 | This new garbage friction material is famous for exactly what you have -- Because it is not nice smoooooth ++ Asbestos ++ the only way it can Attempt to stop a vehicle is by gripping, grabbing, ripping, and shredding..... You MUST use ++ N.O.S. ++ Asbestos ++ the only softest smoooooothest Brake Surface to stop a real car..... Fortunately, I have ++ N.O.S. ++ Asbestos ++ and absolutely everything else in your brake system....... Always best to simply call me --- Craig --- 516 - 485 - 1935 ....... New York......

I'd start with tracing down the issue by blocking front/rear circuits and left/right. That is the only way to solve a problem. Then you know if it is a general problem, or just a single drum. My guess is, it is the brake drums that got hot and distorted and even if you have them turned it is mostly not of help. Are the drums new (chinese) or OEM? Edited by 1960fury 2020-03-11 8:12 AM

You don't have a crack that you can't see? Are your springs still wrapped around your drums? I know you don't want to hear this, but one of the many reasons I went to disc brakes was that it felt like I had to re-adjust the drum brakes way to often for the number of mines I was putting on cars.

Elite Veteran Posts: 705 Location: California | The car has OEM brake drums. I did find a big dent in the steel brake line going from the left to right front wheel. The vibration/ grinding is coming from the left front so there may be an imbalance of pressure. I'll change out the line and if that does not correct it I'll get the asbestos shoes. Thanks

Expert 5K+ Posts: 8947 Location: WHEELING,WV.>>>HOME OF WWVA | you might want to check all the steering joints on that side also . sounds like you might have a bad/warped drum though -----------------------------------------later
