Location: The Mile High City | I guess if there is any silver lining to the dark clouds of the current national emergency, reducesd traffic might be one. I took the De Soto out today and I-25, C-470, and 6th Avenue were down right pleasant to drive - even as late as nine o'clock in the morning. This got me to thinking - is anyone interested in a somewhat organized cruise? We could meet at a parking lot at a specific time and take our cars out on the highway on a pre-determined route. No one has to get out of the cars and I think we can maintain the spirit of the "stay at home" order by not socializing. With all of the car events cancelled these days, it sounded kind of fun to me. ...a rolling car show! |

With all the white "global warming" that has hit this week, I haven't a had chance to get any car of mine decently fueled (remember, I do need some the higher octane racing fuel for each). Also, it doesn't seem that the weather this weekend will give us much of a break -- 50s at best.
I hate to disillusion you and Sid, but I really believe Jay Leno has been led down the garden path by some of his "experts." For example, on his '63 Split Window Corvette video, there are these errors:
1. "Expert Mike McClusky" gives underhood pressure build-up as being the cause for front end lift. True to an extent, but the airfoil design in itself creates aerodynamic lift -- a point made by Carroll Shelby which irritated Bill Mitchell no end. Duntov wanted the hood louvers primarily for cooling purposes. The effect of airflow is also demonstrated by the way the ragtop tends to lift off the windshield at speed (an interesting effect in a rainstorm).
2. The "phony" fender vents actually became real in '65, not '67, because my '65 Fuelie has them.
3. Our first Vette (actually my wife's) was an early '63 droptop, but those tool boxes under the seats were quite reachable WITHOUT pulling the seats. Their purpose was actually to serve for space for feet as the early design of the '63 included a jump seat back there.
4. The under dash parking brake was standard until '67. My '65 has the same as Jay's.
5. A '63 vert was used for two episodes of Route 66 before the show ended.
I admire Leno for what he does with his cars, but if McClusky convinced him that he was a Bloomington Gold expert, I'd like him to see mine. Incidently, in '62, I was 20 and I thought the split window was dumb. Besides, no true Corvette aficionado is truly happy unless he has bugs in his teeth as only wusses drive coupes in any weather (although they are lighter and better streamlined for racing).

I like to watch Leno, he is a car guy and these days of political correct metro-sexual lgbt ****** celebs that is enough for me to like him, however my "love" is somewhat limited as his high end european car taste is just terrible. He never was into plain american iron, or FL, until it became "in". He does not respect these cars, never did, he owns them because of the "weird factor". IIRC he called them (or just the 61s?) ugly. I also hate that radical resto modding thing he is in to.
58 Lincolns are awesome, a design you got to see in person, very impressive but the dash design is terrible, imo.
