Expert 5K+ Posts: 9855 Location: Lower Mainland BC | . Looking good there, Jerry. Congrats. Question: Looks like the 58 318 came with a Torqueflite. Cast-iron? (I presume yes?) How did you handle the rear engine/transmission cross-member? Any photos? Glenn R. is trying to put a cast-iron TF in his 56 Plymouth and would appreciate more info including close-ups of the 5-button shifter plate, etc. Can't tell much from here except that it has 5 buttons. Elite Veteran Posts: 688 Location: Winston Salem, N.C. | hi please inform Glenn: I don't have the mechanical skill. I paid to have it done. He should call Jerry Mulcahey, Mocksville, N.C. 336-608-2954 and ask him to explain it to you. Best to call 9 am-3 pm EST. I'll let him know to expect a call. If he still needs photos, have him call me 336-749-5922 leave msg. Jerry Whitfield. In case anyone needs either a steering column or an automatic torque flite, each of those items are FREE. I have other parts including aluminum side trim from 2 door sedan, 4 door sedan, and station wagon

Regular Posts: 87 | Your Suburban is a beauty, Jerry! and thank you, Dave, for asking Jerry about the Torqueflite adaptation. I can see that the newer mechanism and faceplate were adapted to the 56 shift pod. I have a similar idea in mind; I found a shift mechanism in a 58 Dodge that is a little narrower, and was planning to fabricate a faceplate that will fit in place of the existing Powerflite plate. But, the buttons look better from the 58 Plymouth, because they're closer to being the same shape as the 56's. My main concern was having to fabricate a new crossmember. Until Dave told me, I was unaware that the Torqueflite was a longer trans than the Powerflite. I'll crawl underneath and do some measuring and thinking once I get my 56 back from the bodyman. Jerry, how do you rate the Torqueflite for performance, vs the Powerflite in your Suburban?

Regular Posts: 87 | Hi Jerry I am looking for some trim pieces; I need the small (about 4") stainless trim pieces that attach to the rocker panel below the driver's door. Do you have any of those? Also, a power steering unit and column for a 56. (57/58 doesn't fit). Thanks Glenn

Regular Posts: 87 | Hi Jerry Can't stop looking at your Suburban... I did notice that you said you had some side trim from a 2 door sedan. If this is Savoy or Belvedere trim, could you send me some pictures? I'm looking for the stainless trim that goes on the rocker panel beneath the driver's door. Thanks! Glenn

Elite Veteran Posts: 688 Location: Winston Salem, N.C. | hi Glenn: thank you for the compliments on my car. Can you communicate with me directly, in the future at jerrybev1@yahoo.com ? I don't come to this site regularly. I believe you refer to the small curved piece that wrap around the rocker panel and the one piece fastens underneath? Correct? thanks jerry
