How different are they from 60 and 61 ? I know the Valiant/Lancer
shifter rod was different. Not sure about the rest of the mechanism.

Not to hijack this thread but I’m not entirely sure how different they are but I think they are similar enough for me. I would put either one, from a Valiant/Lancer or a full-sized car like a Chrysler or DeSoro. If anyone has one, let me know!

Somewhere on this site, I once posted a photo of the two I have. One is
a 60, the other a 61. If memory serves, the only difference between the two
was the shift knob. 60 is a white ball. 61 is a grey "door knob" shape. The
big difference I remember about the Valiant/Lancer unit was the shift rod was
dramatically more curved. The big car shifters are longer, with a much gentler
curve. I have my doubts that Mother Mopar would have made different shift
mechanisms or hump mounting stampings, if they could avoid it. The way
these were attached to the floor pan looked like a 3rd Grader did the welding,
and they were known to break loose from the floor AND develop fatigue cracks
from rowing the gears. The transmission-mounted "fix" became available in
1963, if memory serves, removing the actual mounting and pivot stress point
from the floor pan metal.
