Hi! I wonder if anyone know where to find the adjustment bolt and swivel to the torsion bars? I have a Chrysler 300 -64 and the adjustment to the torsion bars sit in rear up to -65, after that it changes to the lower control arm. Im not able to find any parts at all to the torsion bars, everything else in the front suspension i have find already, new produced parts but when it comes to torsion bar parts before -65 its a dead end. Im going to rebuild the front suspension on my car and in case i stipped the threads on the adjustment bolt or the swivel i think it could be good to have some to replace with if that happens. It could be possible to make something by my own but i dont know what thread size it is or what material needed for the bolt and swivel, you not want to use to soft of material there. Do anyone have some info about this? // Jimmy

You could make the swivel without issue. Just heat treat it afterward. It's just a large piece of round stock. The bolt would be harder to make and not easy to purchase because it is fully threaded and a very fine thread. Occasionally you can find new parts on Ebay, but most of the time, you need to get them used from places like BigM auto.

I don't know if the '64 is the same as the '57, but there are a couple of them on Ebay right now.

Edit: It looks like the bolt is different from the older ones because it has a fillet built into the bottom of it's head. I'm not sure if the small swivel is the same or not. But it looks the same.

Hi! Thank you for your answer! I will try to clean real good and penetrate with oil and let it stand for a day or so and carefully try to losen the bolts and hopefully it works out well. It not lock any rusty, it looks totally inpacked with grease so possible the bolt and swivels is in good shape.

On two of my cars, after a couple of days of soaking with penetrant, I STILL had to use a 3/4" breaker bar with a 6 or so foot long piece of pipe for extra leverage to move the adjustment. But they did move. Then ran them in and out with an air gun and more penetrant until I could move them easily. You can do this. I've never had one strip after MANY car adjustments.

Thanks for your answer, that sounds hopeful. I will clean it good and penetrate with oil and try to loosen them. Hopefully it all go well.

Soak them well and use a wire brush. Lift the front to release as much torsion from the bar as you can. Mine cleaned up and backed out very easily without need for impact gun. Don't think I used a breaker bar either.

Ok, i found 2 Dorman bolts and swivels on ebay and bought them in case of something happens, the bolts looks to be same size but the swivels seems not to be wide same those on my car. I do not really know what car they are made for really, do someone here know?

I don't think those will work for you as I pointed out in my previous post, that the later bolt has a fillet on the bottom of the head to swivel with. What are your plans to get around that?

Probably they are the wrong ones and hopefully i get those i already have on the car off without any problems. Someone before me has been smart enough and pack the bolts and swiwels in real good with some grease so the threads not looks rusty. Here is some pics from under the car on the stuff.

You can try a trick I learned awhile back. You need a torch, ocxy/acteleen not propane or map gas and a block of bees wax the real thing not the wax in a can. You heat the threaded part, hot but not melting and simply touch a piece of the wax close to where it's threaded in. It will back out very nicely. I do this taking out casting plugs threaded into the back of the oil galleys in engine blocks. I use a 1/4" breaker bar and a 5/16 square bit.

I have clean the bolts and swivels up now and soak them in atf oil and let them stay soaked for a while, atf oil goes in everywhere where it is some kind of opening so i belive thats good. The threads and bolt heads actually looks to be in good shape and i belive thats because of the large amount of greese someone have pack them in with so hopefully its going to go well to loose these things.

Hi i just want to update, i have now disassemble the torsion bars without any problem at all, i cleaned the bolt and swivel real good and soak them in atf oil for a week and after that i was able to loosen both bolts with a usuall breaker bar and the torsion bars came out nicely by hand only both from the lower control arms and the anchors, everything was in good shape and i have now clean it all up reall good for some painting. Now is it only the rest of the front suspension left??
