Looks pretty decent and should meet it's reserve. But I don't know why people think these air cleaners look good as singles like this. That air cleaner and the skirts would get recycled as soon as it arrived at my house.

Not a bad BIN price at $13K. A '55 two door post went through a classic car auction here in Branson in a similar condition but with a Dodge Hemi engine transplanted
in it and brought $23k.

Agree completely on the air cleaner and skirts. Interesting to see another 56 Belvedere with power windows. There really seem to be a lot of 56 Plymouth’s out there. They must have had a high survival rate because I see lots of them for sale all the time, but few 57’s and 58’s by comparison.

There are more 56's because they were better quality! The build of the bodies was nicer less leaks so rust was not as bad!

Manual steering and brakes, but power windows ? In a two door sedan ? Odd combination for sure ! I wonder if the seller added the 4bbl.

It's a nice, low mileage car. Apparently now sold (auction ended early).

It wouldn't surprise me at all if the power windows were added later. Power windows in any '56 Plymouth is extremely rare. Even my Fury with power brakes & power steering didn't get them.

Also, in terms of build quality, the '56 cars were painted on the insides of them. The '57's weren't and they rusted out much easier.

Thanks for the photos,I see what you mean. Too bad Chrysler decided to skip that step on their most beautiful models ever. I just know I see tons of 1956 Plymouths for every one or two 57’s or 58’s. It seems I could toss a rock and hit one!
Don’t get me wrong,I think they are beautiful cars, but the 57’s and 58’s are just Exner at his best.

Were the 56 hardtops really that much better as far as being sealed against leaks?

Yes, but it was more in terms of where the trim holes were located. On the '56 cars, the holes were located on high spots that would naturally drain the water away. Many trim holes on '57 cars were located at low spots that collected water, such as at the front & back window troughs. This was the main cause of early complaints about leakage. Also, I have noticed that the sail panels on the C-pillars were very pooly fit to the point that many of the cars are warped at that location. I often have to fix body work that came from the factory there.

It's funny that when I first looked through the forwardlook cars to determine which car I wanted to purchase, the '57 Chrysler, '60 Chrysler & '56 Plymouth really stood out to me. I saw the '57-'58 Plymouth and was much less impressed by its front end design and the rear of the '56 is very good looking. Only much later did the '57-'58 Plymouths begin to appeal to me. But the Christine aspect of it really deters me from owning one now. Now, I would prefer to have a '59 just so it can't be associated with that movie.

IMO, the worst part of a '56 is the lack of T-bars for the suspension. It makes a big difference in how the car handles. The '56 cars handle much more like the other brands and feel like you are driving a car from the early '50's. But driving a car with T-bars feels like you are driving a modern car once you stiffen up the rear suspension with new springs. That's probably the only reason why I don't own more of them, even though I recently purchased 4 more '56 Plymouths!

I love the 1957-1958 DeSoto,1960 Chrysler’s and DeSotos, the 1957-58 Chrysler’s,57,59 Dodges,60 Dodges and 60 Plymouth. I would have a large fleet of them like you if o could. I also feel the same way about the 57-58 and the whole “Christine” association. My affection for the 57-58’s has nothing to do with that movie and I certainly don’t want a red and white one. I do think the 58 was the most beautiful plymouth ever followed but the 1957 and I really like the front end styling on them, much more than the 59’s. I especially love the 1958’s.i prefer the finned ornaments on the fenders, winged emblem on the hood and the matching lower grille valance.the 57’s are great too.
I do like 1959 Plymouth’s,( without the toilet seat on the trunk)! I think even if you get a 1959 Plymouth you’re not going to escape the Christine curse and will have uneducated folks calling it “Christine”,asking you when you’re going to paint “her” red and white, and you’ll hear lots of lines recited.
When I had a 57 Dodge I had people call it “the Christine car” all the time and it drove me crazy. It’s not even a Plymouth and they don’t look anything alike!. I bet there are guys with 1957 Chevys that hear “isn’t that the Christine car?” at car shows all the time

Agree! Torsion-Aire is the best. I drove a friends 56 desoto once and they aren’t even in the same league!
