As you are finding out your Imperial is a six volt positive ground system.  
The generator puts out 50 amps so that you may play with more than one 
electrical item at a time.

If the car has been with the same set of tires for a while they may be all 
cracked and that could be a bad thing.  The modern size is 235 x 75 or 235 x 70 
x 15's.  At this point do not worry about how wide the white wall is to be.

If you need running gear the Chrysler New Yorker and Saratoga share the same 
drive line.  The engine is the first series 331 cubed V8 and the transmission 
is correctly known as the M-6 which started its life before WWII.  If you feel 
that you must add or change fluids to the transmission or the Fluid - Drive 
ask before you purchase a can of this or that from the local store.

For common parts ask your local NAPA clerk for the hoses, belts and etc.

Go slowly and do not feel bad for asking the same type of question several 
times.  Within this group there are all types of knowledge that is just waiting 
for your question.
