Not all 727s? (was Re: IML: 61 Transmission Build Date)

One of my cherished illusions is that all 413 and 440 equipped Imperials
had a torqueflite 727 transmission. Did the '61s use a 904?

You cannot determine if a Mopar vehicle is "numbers matching" prior to
mid-1968 or so. Prior to that Chrysler did not stamp the VIN on either
engines or transmissions, so there is not way to determine if those units
were installed at the factory the day the car was built.
Of the numbers stamped onto the transmission, the transmission assembly
number is in the first set. Thus "19499 904" is the assembly number and it
is for a 1961 Torqueflite used on 1961 Imperials (as well as Dodge Polara,
DeSoto, all Chryslers, and HP Plymouths and Darts) . It was also used on
1960 HP Plymouths and Darts.

Subject: IML: 61 Transmission Build Date
Hello, I have my 61's transmission out and ready to be
rebuilt. How can I tell if it is the original -numbers matching one that
came with the car from day one? The numbers on the side of the pan lip are;
1949904U2.5 1722128
Can these numbers be decoded to show the build date?
Thanks, Rob Kidd 61/65
