Self-Inflicted Chrome Plating

Any other old timers who remember those ads in Popular
Science, Popular Mechanics and the like for chroming kits?
They showed a little brush with a wire on it and said it was
as easy as painting.

Frankly I don't think there's going to be any satisfactory
substitute for going to a chrome shop.
