Why not? Chrysler did. The first letter "P" was the 1960 model year, as
per the Engineering Department. Except on the 1960 Valiant which was "Q".
And the 1960 Valiant model letter was "X". The Valiant did not become "V"
until 1961.
And the "Y", of course, was for the Imperial.

This booklet is pretty darned informative, so take a peek if you like cars
of the 1960-62 flavor. I've always mentally referred to my car as a PY, but
don't let that fool you into thinking that I expect anyone else to do so.
