There is nothing that prevents you from dropping the pan and changing the
filter.  This is an extra charge service when you put it on the machine,
too.  If you just drop the pan and change the filter, and clean out what
every you can reach, you miss the fluid that is still up in the torque
converter and the cooling lines and cooler, where the machine fluid change
or this method gets rid of that, too.
