I did similar with my '65, except I purchased low-restriction "turbo" 
mufflers. They were a bit loud, and caused a "drone" inside the car 
that was annoying. The solution was a pair of long glasspacks as 
resonators. They toned down the noise level and eliminated the drone. 
My car is a bit louder than stock, but it sounds great. I would suggest 
the glasspacks, and an "H" crossover pipe if they haven't already 
installed one.
