Joe -- You can indeed use a dual snorkel air cleaner
without making any other modifications to the engine.
It won't cause any harm at all. In fact, you'll very
likely notice an improvement in both acceleration and
gas mileage. I was pleasantly suprised at the
difference a dual snorkel air cleaner made on my '71
Imperial.
Notice that the housing in the eBay auction above has
the port on one snorkel for the PCV valve connection.
If your car doesn't have a PCV valve (it was optional
in '61), this won't matter, except in terms of
appearance.
Snag it and let your Imperial breathe better!
Elijah
