Re: IML: body panels and floorpans. ('59 IMP)

My '59 Le Baron had significant body rust and deterioration. Even when
I bought it many years ago the front fenders had rusted through at the
lower front edges and one had rust holes on top by the exterior
rearview mirror. The rear quarter panels where in pretty bad shape
although the damage was somewhat hidden by the chrome trim. When the
body-off-the-frame restoration process got underway a few months ago,
we found more areas that needed fixing - trunk floor, floor under the
driver, and several of the body mounts.

I got a parts car and we were able to use the front fenders and cut
some of the rear quarter panel pieces to patch bad areas on my car. But
some of the bad areas we had to make pieces to patch in. If you have
the skills, time, and equipment you could do something similar for your
car. If you have to hire out the work, all I can say is it's rather
expensive to fix up a '59 with significant rust since it's labor
intensive. As for body bushings, you might try Gary Goers
(www.garygoers.com).
