True enough, the dimmer is in series with the switch. I remember when mine starting acting up I was hoping it was the dimmer switch. Nope. I ordered a new switch and started to install a relay but in the meantime kept driving the car. Started to get a burnt plastic smell every now and then. Not a good thing. When I pulled the old switch it had started to self destruct(melting) which is where the burnt smell was coming from. I am lucky I never had a fire.My advice is whatever is causing your lights to act up figure out what it is asap as it is a warning.

If the headlight switch doesn't work, you might also check the dimmer switch, believe it or not.
