IML: Valley Pan

Charles,
I recently had this part of my car apart. Do you mean that a hole exists so that the cam and lifters and pushrods are exposed to the open air environment under the intake manifold? This should not be the case. This pan seals off this area from dirt getting into the valley of the motor. Can you describe this differently if this isn't the case?

Should there be a hole in the valley pan at the crossover in the center of the manifold? Mine has had one "cut" out is this better or worse or will not matter?
Thanks,
Charles 63
