Yes, prices are out of reach for many of us. The hobby used to be just that, it has become a haven for investors looking to make a quick buck. I was staggered upon seeing an air cleaner for a mid-fifties Imp selling for $250. at a flea market.
Actually, in my case, searching out bargains is exciting and very rewarding. Even on e-bay you can find bargains if you follow parts on a regular basis. Just don't buy overpriced items, look for the ones that are priced right. The Imperial web sight is a good source of parts that can be priced right. With my two cars I am continually looking for parts better than what is on these cars. A couple of recent "bargains':
1) For my 1967 - a steering wheel foam hub/with gold crest, this part was perfect when I cleaned it (could be used as is on a #1 car) cost $3.00 on e-bay plus shipping.
2) Great chrome for my 1967, on a scale of 1 - 10 with NOS # 10 these parts where 8 - 9 (Vs mine pitted/dull and etc., maybe #4 - 6). Total cost for virtually all of the cars chrome parts was $800.00 including shipping (compare this to several thousand dollars to rechrome). These parts came from a car to be used as a derby car - an excellent source for parts.
