IML: '61 on the road

Hi all:

Well, Gertrude (new name) took her first "extended" trip this morning -- 25 miles to the transmission shop.

Y'all, I am intoxicated! Not literally but figuratively. Our car drives like a dream and, while generally mechanically sound, she has a LOT more work in queue for her. But, mercy, when she was new, I can only imagine what a sweet ride she was (and will be again).

I just had to share my euphoria with this group. Thanks for listening.

Euphoric in Allen Texas
'61 Crown 4D Southampton and she drives like a dream....

P.S.
It WAS a bad reverse band; broken, in fact. Hopefully, the drum wasn't damaged beyond repair.

She has several holes in her exhaust which accounts for some of the rumble (the glass packs account for the rest).

She has brakes!! It was just a matter of adjusting the shoes for a tighter fit, as many of you suggested, and bleeding the brakes again. Still no power assist on the brakes but that is a booster issue, I am sure, since vacuum seems to be adequate from the engine.

Still no power steering. Since I have replaced the hoses to/from the pump, I believe it is a pump issue so that will have to be replaced.

Oh, and one last thing, the click/thunk noise is still there but I have isolated that problem to the "thing" under the left kick panel. Haven't figured out the problem and it still persists but at least I have a lead on it....
