RE: IML: What to use for cleaning

Thanx everyone for your advice! I got some mineral spirits on the way
home tonight and will run out and get some diesel as well to try that.

Steve;
May I suggest using diesel fuel for disolving the hardened grease? I
used that stuff to clean off 1/4 inch of crud off of my starter motor on
the 54' Imp as well as the engine block and followed it with mineral
spirits. Believe me there was a lot of crud all over that thing, so
much so that clumps of it would fall off in my face every time I would
would work under it. Diesel will also disolve asphalt so be careful
around the driveway with it. It may hurt rubber parts but I gathered
that you were replacing those anyhow. Best Regards Arran Foster 1954

I have begun the process of rebiliding the front end on my '59 Imperial.
Yesterday I got everything pulled off and labeled and got the center
link ready to ship out for rebuilding.

All these parts are covered in massive amounts of 45 year old gunk that
I swear could safely be used to hold a jumbo jet together instead of
rivets. I used an entire can of comet just trying to get it all off me
after the day was done.

So what do yall use to clean this kind of stuff? I normally use simple
green or gunk and this stuff just laughs at both of those products. I
want it all to be pretty and clean before I try to put it back together
again.
