I'm probably a statistical outlier here, but in my '62 & '63 (and undoubtedly in my '69 if I ever manage to get the A/C fixed) I _loved_ driving around on hot days with some or all of the windows down and the air conditioning blasting. If it had been hot enough, and I had like-minded rear seat passengers, then the rear A/C unit would have allowed this activity, when the front A/C alone would not. I've never had dual A/C, so I haven't been able to try. The standard air conditioning in these cars is incredibly powerful, but I don't know if it's strong enough to cool the back seat on a hot day, with the windows open. -Kle.
