ATF has a high - compared to engine oil - amount of detergent in it,  and 
its equivalent to a 20 wt oil as far as viscosity goes.  Its been used for 
years as an engine flush.  Probably the best thing one can do,  besides 
regular oil and filter changes, is to run the car regularly and long enough 
to actually boil out whatever condensation builds up in the engine.  A warm 
up in the driveway doesnt even come close,  you have to get the oil up to 
temp and hold it there , go drive for an hour or so, and that will do it.

As far as engine flush products go,  the brand names mentioned , diesel, 
kerosene....they all work about the same. Other than the remote chance of 
loosening up a huge chunk of carbon or sludge that might cover the pick up 
screen, its not much of a risk.
