IML: MAD4CARS fuel starvation problems

Don't know if this has been discussed yet, missed most of this weekend's digests.

I had a very similar problem with a Dodge 5-ton Dump truck, with external tankage and big block. Changed out the tank, new fuel pump, new ELECTRIC fuel pump bypassing the mechanical pump. ALL new rubber lines, etc etc. STILL starving out under a load.

I finally, on a rare hot and dry NW day, I felt rather than saw an infinitisimal wetness on one of the hard lines. Light bulb moment, then replaced all of the (old, re-bent, cruddy) steel fuel lines and voila! no more problem.

Even a microscopic air leak in a gas line will cause fuel feeding loss under a pull, when the engine is sucking it up for all she's worth - PLUS it will be pre-injecting air into the mixture, upsetting all the carb settings. I imagine that replacement of all the hard lines in an Imperial is a heck of a lot more work than in a big truck, but it may be your only solution.
