I to have removed the dash pads from the 56 Imperial. I always pull the steering wheel off before I do. It can be done with patience.

I've removed mine several time to re-glue the pad. Which was a waste of time as the vinyl had shrunk from ultraviolet light and heat.

 

If memory serves me tight it will just clear with no room to spare. Believe I also might have lowered the steering column.
