I can add some info on this topic. Tinted glass was definitely NOT included in the price of A/C up through the mid-60s. It was an extra cost option, typically about $40, in addition to the $400 or so for A/C. If the owner didn't order it, it wasn't included. Maybe dealers recommended it (which would have been wise of them). My 65 Polara convertible has factory A/C but no tinted glass (or delete code on the fender tag). Conversely, my 65 Monaco HAS full tinted glass but no factory A/C. Weird. By the late 60s I think the Chrysler policy had changed. The dealer catalogs state that tinted glass is recommended on A/C-equipped cars and automatically installed unless the buyer specifically refused it. You still paid separately for the tinted glass, but didn't have to specify it. Option code G21 is tinted glass delete code for A/C cars. The original purchaser of the 10k mile 69 LeBaron I came across a few years ago was such a buyer. He didn't want tinted glass and the fender tag shows G21. AC'd cars had tinted glass unless it was specifically omitted, which I have heard of only in the case of movie studio cars. Those turn up from time to time in private hands around here (LA). This of course is to improve the photography of people in the cars. ----------------- http://www.imperialclub.com ----------------- This message was sent to you by the Imperial Mailing List.
