Re: Re: IML: Fuselage Era cars - 69-73

Very true. The platform and cowl of the 1969-73 fuselage models dated back
to 1965. Those are the expensive parts to tool due to the size of the
pieces involved, and they are not seen by the car buyer. The use of the
1965-68 platform for the fuselage models in 1969 resulted in more than a few
comments that the new body styles looked a little heavy and plump due to the
narrow rear wheel track/tread. This was especially true on the Polara and
Monaco and less so on the Fury. The Chrysler and Imperial did not have this
problem.

The Imperial's front track was 62.4" from 1967 through 1973 while the rear
was increased from 61.1" in 1967-1969 to 62.0" for 1970.

The Polara, on the other hand, had a rear track of 60.7" in 1967-69 which
was increased to 63.4" in 1970. Made for a much more balanced look and less
like a hippo on roller skates.
