Velcro is what the factory used to attach the vinyl
center section.  Fuzzy on the vinyl, plastic hook
strip on the fiberglass ends.

Before you assume your gas tank sending unit is shot,
check to see if the ground strap is corroded or
otherwise has a bad connection.  It is a kind of 6"
long jumper wire that spans the rubber connector 
between the metal fuel outlet of the tank and the
metal fuel line to the engine.
