IML: A glimmer of hope for the return of Mrs. Blueberry

My 58 Imperial has been awaiting the reinstallation of its rebuilt engine
and transmission for over a year at the large local trucking company whose
owner volunteered to help me get it fixed. The project languished for a
number of reasons and I ran out of any cards to play to get the project back
on track so I just had to resign myself to a waiting game. With my finances
as bad as they are and the high price of gas I consoled myself that it just
might be for the best.
I go to visit the owner, probably the wealthiest person I know, once a
month. He enjoys backing the museum providing we keep his involvement
quiet. An older man, he's old school, a former truck driver from the days
before interstates. I am about to learn how to use a spray gun to paint the
spiffy new gates recently installed at the museum. It occurred to me that I
might have a go at painting the Imperial after the gates are finished. The
car looks pretty bad now, though you'd be surprised how well the oil based
house paint I lashed on it in desperation a few years ago has held up. It
just looks appalling. I mentioned this to Roy and said maybe I should take
the car back in its current condition so I could do the engine compartment.
To my surprise and delight he said he didn't like the idea but would rather
they just put it all back together and let me have it that way. He reminded
himself how long they had had the thing in pieces and promised, kinda sorta,
that he would see to it that it was rebuilt before long.
Hey, that's the most positive thing I have heard about the car in a while.
I'm sure that like a lot of folks on this list, driving the Imperial is a
form of therapy. No matter how bad things are, how bad can they really be
if you are lucky enough and smart enough to have an Imperial to appreciate.
