Re: IML: Dr Hinges Stops

Bob / IML list
I have just completed the replacement of the Door Hinge stops on my 1964-2 door coupe. I bought two stop kits, which includes the stop pins & spring,
from Lowell Howe in Paterson Ca. 209-892-3464. You need to remove the whole upper hinge assembly from the door. I used a transmission jack with a platform & side braces I manufactured, to support the door while removing the hinge. The door IS HEAVY! I then rolled the jack back enough to get clearance to remove the top hinge assembly. I ground off the old hinge pins with a die grinder & punched them out. I put the new pins in & penned the ends over to prevent them from coming out. The hardest part is putting the new spring on. I used a large pair of channel lock pliers & brute strength. The hinge MUST be held securely in a bench vise while doing this. As an alternative to a Transmission jack one could make a platform for a floor jack but you will need an assistant to help you balance the door. Its so nice not having the door hit you in the chins while you are getting in and out.  If anyone needs further information contact me off list & I will be glad to provide it.
