RE: IML: '60 push buttons falling out!

I have 2 sets for 1963.  It’s not too difficult to pull the chrome off.  I’ve had it all off of both sets and put it back on.  Just grab the chrome piece with a rag, and hold the chrome in one hand and the plastic shaft in the other.  Wiggle and pull.  It might take 5 minutes to get 1 apart, but it will come.  The more it slides, the easier it will get.  Yes, your hands will get tired, but a little elbow grease never hurt anybody.  (:-D)

Re-installation is the reverse.

I have been considering drilling the little dimples out in the chrome and just gluing the pieces back together.  Guess I'll give it a try.  These are of course the buttons used the most.  I guess I could also try model glue and adding plastic back  where to the notches are worn out.  Not too much to lose at this point anyhow.  Thanks, Richard

If you are very careful, you should be able to combine all of the best parts to make pretty, and usable push buttons. If not, hang in there, I am sure a good set will turn up. I haven't ever taken the chrome off the push buttons, but if it was assembled once, it should be able to be disassembled and reassembled now. I would recommend trying to put the nice chrome on the good plastic. But don't force anything.

>Another question.......My R and N push buttons keep falling out!  The notches are worn at the back in the plastic.  Now I have plenty of good usable spares but all have nasty worn chrome and bad fronts.  Any way to repair my pretty ones?
