The rose was named in honor of the car (actually the company founder, Walter P Chrysler, 12 years or so after his death).

The "Chrysler Imperial" hybrid of tea rose is also covered on the website:

I've never seen any info on who came up with the name for the car, but it's a word that was used fairly commonly in marketing in the early part of the 20th century to mean something was the best. (See dictionary definition below, especially #3b.) There were probably hundreds of Imperial-branded products, including some top-line Cadillac models.

Dictionary definition of "imperial"
1. Of, relating to, or suggestive of an empire or a sovereign, especially an emperor or empress: imperial rule; the imperial palace.
2. Ruling over extensive territories or over colonies or dependencies: imperial nations.
3. Having supreme authority; sovereign.
    a.  Regal; majestic.
    b.  Outstanding in size or quality.
4. Of or belonging to the British Imperial System of weights and measures

Cadillac and Lincoln were named after people (the founder of Detroit and the 16th president), while LaSalle was an explorer. La Salle was also not a top-of-the-line brand but a more affordable "companion brand" to Cadillac (as Clipper was to Packard).

ken, imperial is also a type of rose. you will  often see roses in imperial ads and literature. the name for the car  more than likely came from that. if you put imperial rose in a search  you will find info about the flower.   dennis  53  custom, 54 windsor convertible.
