Jerry;Sometimes you can end up with a raw gas smell if someone has fiddled with the vapour recovery system on a 70's car. There are all kinds of pipes and tubing for this purpose running between the gas tank, carburettor, and a charcoal canister on the right side behind the radiator support. Check the shop manual to see where everything goes and see if any tubing is missing or split. The only unique problem with thermoquads over other carbs is that sometimes the base warps from heat allowing air to leak through but even that can be fixed. They are still available through NAPA as rebuilds if you don't want to play with rebuilding one yourself.Best RegardsArran Foster1954 Imperial Newport1975 Chrysler Newport----- Original Message -----From: jhplc@xxxxxxxxxxxSent: Sunday, November 27, 2005 4:51 PMSubject: IML: 73 Gas smellHi IML'ers..When it is parked in the garage, the smell of raw gas is overpowering to the point of putting it back outside..I know that the Thermo-Quad isn't the greatest thing out there, so if it is the carb, what is the best carb out there..(that mere mortals can afford..)..any ideas?Jerry73(smells like gas)
