Re: IML: Engine/trans. stands

Dan:

I remember advice on engine stands from Kerry Anderson's description of his engine restoration. He said to make sure to get one that collapses for storage, that his was not configured to collapse and that it was a nuisance in his shop, always getting in the way when not in use.

Good luck with the 440!

Dan,

Most engine stands are the same box tube design. Get the highest rated one
you can find with 4 casters. It should be rated for something like 1000
lbs. The 3 caster design will get a little tipsy with a small block on it.

Heavily grease the rotating piece the engine bolts to before sliding it into the stand. It will make life much easier when it's time to rotate.

Any auto parts store will carry them, as well as places like Harbor Freight,
Summit Racing, Jegg's, etc. My 3 castor one is a Rally brand from Pep Boys.
My buddy's 4 castor one is a no-name he got mail order years ago, probably
from Harbor Freight.

Hi All...well, I picked up a 440 engine (and Trans) from a 1966 Imperial
over the weekend and now the big question is.....does anyone have
suggestions as to what brand of engine stand (this is for a 440 motor
remember) would be a good one for me to use? also, bearing in mind that I am
in southern California, any suggestions as to best place to GET the stand
from? I noticed Kragers Auto has then ( here in town) but I would like to
know if anyone's experience has told than a particular stand was 'Good" or
"Never again".
Feel free to contact me direct at "dansgarage@xxxxxxxxxxxx".
Thanks all!
