RE: IML: My '73 won't start

Usually to check spark I just pull a plug wire and put it on a spare plug laid on the firewall. Is there anything wrong with that method? I only ask because it seems simple compared to most suggested methods. You suspect spark, and as far as the distributor goes, best guess would be the magnetic pick up in there. I assume (dangerous I know) it's electronic ignition and that all mopar electronic distributors are the same. The pickups often go screwy and you have to set the gap correctly. Any intelligent response would tell you to check where the spark breaks down. I've heard of new boxes and resistors being bad out of the box and the one time spark sounds like you may have a bad 4 prong (start-run) ballast. You can check the pickup to see if it pulses. There are instructions on the ignition repair section of the website-I don't trust myself to explain.

Hello everybody,

My '73 won't start, and I have replaced electronic box, ballast resister,
and the other electrical unit on the firewall. The car did start after that,
but since it's been sitting for a while now it won't start.

I pulled the coil wire, and when I cranked the engine over I saw one spark
and that was it. It's not the fuel, because there was plenty of gas in the
carburetor.

Is there any other spark related items I could change? How about the coil or
something in the distributor?
