Thanks Randall.

I forgot to mention that I had the steering box rebuilt locally a few  
years ago to to excess slop and play. Whether they did a good job or  
not I can't say for sure.

Also, the sound I hear seems to come from from right behind the  
wheel. I suppose it's possible that binding noises closer to the  
steering box could be transmitted up the column?
