Don't bad mouth *all* Monroe shocks. There are different levels. Some are quite good, others equivalent to no-name parts house shocks. Same with Gabriel. Red Ryders are decent shocks, but not exactly high performance. The KYB will be stiffer than stock. That's what I wanted. They are much cheaper than other top handling options (Koni). KYBs were on my '83 when I bought it in 2000 and they are still fine now. I wouldn't be concerned about the fact that they weigh less than the stockers, they are a different construction and seem to hold up fine to NYC potholes. What I would be concerned about is being 30% stiffer. Some people, like me, want that. Others, are looking for that cushion-y Imperial ride might not. Make sure you know what you are getting yourself into before you buy.
