The vent has nothing to do with brake pressure. Its purpose, is to equilize pressure in the rear axle housing. This prevents gear oil from blowing into brakes, and from leaking from pinion seal. Dave.

The vent on the axle is for excess pressure inside rear axle. The bolt that holds the brake fitting tee, is hollow with a cap on top. Do not eliminate it. Hope this helps. Dave.
