Fellow IMLers! Thanks to all with suggestions on brakes and back-up lights. I wrote a general posting on Race progress, so I won;t repeat the actual cause of the light problem or our fix here, but suffice it to say, all is working OK so far. Thanks, and I'm sorry I left town too soon to get your helpful answers first! Ahh for a wee bit more time...... jc -----Original Message----- From: mailing-list-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx on behalf of randalpark@xxxxxxx Sent: Mon 6/19/2006 9:06 PM To: mailing-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: IML: 61 Reverse Light Switch I believe the reverse light switch is in the push button area behind the panel. I have worked on these before on '60 and '62. It may be easier to get to it with the instrument cluster removed. On one of my cars, both bulbs were burned out. When they were replaced they lit up everytime. I can't help with the vacuum, but I might have an idea for the reverse lights. It used to be here in PA that the lights only had to work, not necessarily with the car in reverse. If that is the case where you are, you could hook up a temporary toggle switch to the circuit to get you through inspection. The later cars have a reverse light switch on the steering column activated by the shift linkage. If the '61 used a similar switch it may just be out of adjustment. I've had friends run the One Lap of America, and were wrenching on the car with less time to spare. Good luck. HEEELLLPPP! It's two days before we leave on the Great Race and the '61 failed inspection - no back-up lights, AND, the brakes are making a vacuum-leaking hiss when the pedal is pressed unless I really press down. Does anyone know where the back-up switch is and how it works or fails? Can I trust the booster with a vacuum leak like this or must I pull it out and try a fast swap? near panic. jc ----------------- http://www.imperialclub.com ----------------- This message was sent to you by the Imperial Mailing List.
