The pictures finally came through for me. I don’t see too much wrong with the car: inauthentic and way too modern wheel covers, battery, exhaust system, and seat belts. The wheel covers in the trunk may be correct – I’m not sure about non-Imperial wheel covers.
The headlight bulbs look like 12 volt bulbs to me, so possibly the car has been converted to 12 volts – I can’t tell from the Optima battery – it does look like a 3 cell battery, which would indicate 6 volts, so perhaps I’m wrong about that.
Certainly the statement that the car is “All Original!!” has to be taken with about 10 pounds of salt. It has been completely restored and detailed externally and under the hood, with modern paint and new chrome. I recall seeing this car before on eBay – I don’t think it sold then either, and since this seller is a dealer, he likely just picked it up from the person who did the work and is passing along what he thinks is correct. Somebody spent bags of money on this car – it’s a shame they didn’t keep it and enjoy it – they are great cars.
I’m amused by his statement that it “starts on a dime”. That’s a new one on me – “turns on a dime”, yes (But not for this car!). Starting these 331s on 6 volts takes a very good battery and cables – it looks like someone has taken the obvious steps to make it start reliably – I’d get it hot and try a restart to see how it is going to be for reliability.
I would have the car carefully checked over by an experienced mechanic, and especially I’d put it up on a lift and inspect the frame and underbody for rust and previous repairs. I’d take the “70,000 miles” and the “original interior” with some suspicion also, but it IS possible, I’m not an expert on interior trim for these cars.
Finding the AC compressor will probably be possible, but expensive to get the whole system working again, now that it has sat open in the east coast climate.

Gentleman,
What type of motor would be powering this beauty?
It seems the lister is none too versed in his own car? I am looking for a "complement" for my 1956 4 door Imperial sedan and though I prefer to stay in the Imperial mode as I have developed many contacts and quite the education building my pride, as it were, for some reason only a few Imperial models of the sixties really do it for me so I lean toward the 50's vintage for the full effects of horsepower coming of age as well as the amenities, re: a/c, p/w, p/s and though this is obviously not an Imperial, I have become a fan Walter's (and particularly early Virgil Exner) production tendencies and this piques my interest, unless there is an Imperial fellow member who, has and is willing to part with, their love to a fan and growing aficionado who sops up the help of Dick, Elijah, Rodger and Gabby, and the other incredibly helpful members of this site and the vendors who are so instrumental in keeping/bringing our loves to life as I would faithfully. Thanks one and all always.
Respectfully,
Jack/ybshore 1956 Four Door Sedan Imperial
PS My nickel on the IML Emailing: I have never read anything from any posting that I did not learn something from, whether it pertained to my particular vehicle or not........furthermore, I would rather see an IML message on my screen for I KNOW it will be "fun", if not, as I saw before on another well put posting: the button is called DELETE if you do not want to read it and if you are so busy in your caught up life that postings are an issue for you, I strongly suggest a ride on infinite proportion in your classic with no phone or radio for a good chill out!!!!!!!!! |
