Check the fluid level. It sounds more like
low fluid. Sometimes when cars get hot the gauge will not read right and
the engine will boil over the radiator. Check rad cap and all hoses.
My 73 over heated and the gauge showed only half way. But the car was
boiling over. Had a small leak. fixed that and everything is
fine.
